Cyanotype photography was first discovered by an English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel in 1842. John is also responsible of creating the name ''photography'' or ''light writing''. John considered cyanotypes primarily a toll for reproducing notes and diagrams and the technique was later used by architects and designers to create blue prints. A few photographers still make cyantoype prints, but using Photoshop as it's easier.
The picture above demonstrates cyantoype and how you can accomplish the final look below by using Photoshop.
To do the cynantype effect, you'll need to convert your image to monochrome using Image>Adjustments>Desaturate.
Then you'll add a new layer and fill with a soild blue (4e8aef) by going to Edit>Fill and choosing colour. Lastly, change the blending mode of this new layer to 'Linear Dodge' (Add) and then lower the opacity of the layer to 40% to reduce the impact of the effect.
